Silver Swallows

History

The first aerobatic team of the Ireland Air Corps was called "Silver Swallows" and it was established in 1986. The team initially flew just three CM.170 Fouga Magister trainers but, in 1987, a fourth plane was added to the team.
The team's aircraft were drawn from the Light Strike Squadron of the 1st Support Wing based in Baldonnel. The squadron's international debut was on July 26, 1990, at the British air base in Brawdy.
1997 was the most active year in the history of this team, and, by a fate of irony, it was also its last one. After some displays celebrating the 75th anniversary of Ireland's Air Corps, they also participated in the international Air Tattoo airshow in Great Britain. At the end of the year, they once again visited the United Kingdom. Their demonstration in Leuchars was to be their last because, in 1998, the CM170 aircraft were removed from the inventory.
The team's aircraft had no special color insignia except for the logo of the team. Even this logo was not permanent changing during the team existence and/or sometimes being absent.
