The August 1st Team is the premiere People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF)(Chinese Air Force) Aerobatic Display Team. It is named after the date of the founding of the PLAAF.
Originally equipped with JJ-5 and then F-7 fighters, at the end of 2009, the August 1st aerobatic team began its transition to the new Chinese-built Chengdu J-10 multirole fighter. The debut of the team with these new aircraft was at the Zhuhai Air Show in November 2010. The J-10 aircraft were initially painted in a overall white, blue and red color scheme which has now given way to a predominately blue colour scheme.
The present home base for the team is at Yangcun Air Force Base (Meichong) near Tianjin.
