The team, which has squadron status, is equipped with seven planes but use only five during demonstrations. The fifth aircraft is a designated solo. The Cruz del Sur aircraft were produced especially for Argentina's Air Force by the Sukhoi manufacturer and are painted in national colours of white, light and dark blue. All the Su-29s are equipped with white smoke generators and the squadron is based at Mendoza Air Base as a part of the IV Air Brigade.
