Marche Verte

History

The Royal Moroccan Air Force aerobatic display team, "Marche Verte" (Green March)*, was formed in 1988 by order of King Hassan II. The task of its creation was given to French aerobatic pilot, Jean-Pierre Otelli. Originally, the team flew just two CAP-231 aerobatic aircraft but this was later increased to seven aircraft.
The team performs unique formation takeoffs in which all seven planes are tied together with ropes. They perform some maneuvers in this configuration before a breaking apart maneuver which tears the ropes.
The team's total demonstration is about 23 minutes; the first seven minutes of which they fly tied together with ropes. All the team aircraft are painted in overall red, green and yellow colors, and each use white smoke generators. At present, the "Marche Verte" team flies with French-built CAP-232 aerobatic aircraft.

Taming Sari

History

“Taming Sari” were the first Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF or Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia) aerobatic display team. The team was formed in 1983 at the RMAF Flying Training Center #1, based at Alor Setar, Kedah. Originally the team flew five Pilatus PC-7 Mk I trainers painted in white, red and blue colors. Later “Taming Sari” reduced the team numbers to just three aircraft and also slightly changed the livery of the airplanes.
In 1995, two of the team's PC-7s accidentally collided in mid-air but both pilots escaped safely from the incident. The team performed for the last time in 1995, during the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) exhibition.

Smokey Bandits

The “Smokey Bandits” are the current Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) aerobatic display team. They fly with five MiG-29N/NUB fighters, using another one as a spare. All the team's aircraft are painted in a standard gray camouflage scheme. Based at Kuantan, the team is a unit of No. 17/19 Skn (Squadron), which is also known as the “Taufan Ganas”. All of the team's pilots are operational fighter pilots, including a female pilot, Major Patricia Yap Syau Yin, who flies as a solo. The “Smokey Bandits” demonstration team was first formed in 2001. From 6 to 9 July 2011, the “Smokey Bandits” made their international debut during the Brunei International Defence Exhibition (BRIDEX). The other main events at which the team performs are the Formula One “PETRONAS” Malaysian Grand Prix at the Sepang International Circuit and at the “LIMA” Airshow.
